Tragic Incident Claims Lives of Teenage Swimmers off Brooklyn's Coney Island

In a devastating turn of events, two teenage swimmers were tragically pulled from the waters off Coney Island in Brooklyn and despite efforts to save them, they did not survive the night. The incident occurred on Friday evening, just after 8 p.m., when emergency calls flooded in reporting three individuals in distress near Stillwell Avenue and Riegelmann Boardwalk.

According to officials from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), search and rescue teams were deployed immediately to locate the stranded swimmers. After an intense search that lasted over an hour, two teenagers, identified as an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old girl, were finally recovered from the water.

Due to the severity of their condition, both teenagers were promptly rushed to Coney Island Hospital. Regrettably, law enforcement sources confirmed overnight that they could not overcome their critical injuries and had succumbed to the tragic incident. The identities of the sisters have not been disclosed.

Throughout the rescue operation, divers had been tirelessly searching for a third individual, believed to be a man in his 20s, who had been reported missing at sea. However, police authorities later clarified that there were no additional swimmers unaccounted for.
