Tragic Head-On Crash Claims 8-Year-Old Boy's Life in Rumford
RUMFORD, Maine - A devastating head-on collision in Rumford on Saturday afternoon has left an 8-year-old boy dead and several others fighting for their lives in the hospital. Rumford Police are currently investigating the incident.
According to authorities, an 8-year-old boy, his younger brother, and their father were involved in the crash. Witnesses reported that a Game Warden and a nurse happened to be nearby and rushed to offer assistance to the unresponsive 8-year-old. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the young boy later succumbed to his injuries.
Tragically, three other individuals suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision. The 5-year-old brother has been transported to a hospital in Portland for further medical treatment. Meanwhile, the father is expected to be transferred to a hospital in Lewiston on Saturday night.
The fourth person involved in the crash was identified as a Rumford resident who was driving the other vehicle. He also sustained severe injuries and is currently in a critical condition.
While no charges have been announced at this time, Rumford Police have stated that alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
