Tragic Boat Crash Claims Lives of Two Girls on Illinois Lake

Two young girls lost their lives on Tuesday evening in a devastating boat collision on Lake Marie near Antioch Township, Illinois. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred when a Yamaha WaveRunner, driven by a 16-year-old girl from Lake Forest, Orange County, collided with a speed boat operated by a 55-year-old Illinois man.

Eyewitnesses reported that the personal watercraft was traveling at high speeds directly towards the path of the speed boat, leaving it unable to avoid the collision. The impact caused both girls to be thrown into the water, leaving them unconscious. Fortunately, the occupants of the boat were able to quickly respond, pulling the girls from the water and providing them with life-saving first aid until they were taken to shore.

Tragically, despite their efforts, both girls were pronounced deceased upon arrival at a nearby hospital. The identity of the second victim was confirmed to be a 13-year-old girl from Long Grove, Illinois. Authorities have stated that the occupants of the boat did not sustain any injuries in the accident.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office, along with the Illinois Conservation Police, is currently investigating the crash. An autopsy, scheduled for Thursday, aims to gather further information regarding the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
