GLASGOW, Va. (WDBJ) — The search for a woman who went missing after her kayak overturned in the James River has ended in tragedy. Octavia Richardson, who had been missing since Saturday, was found dead, according to her grieving family.
The incident occurred near Locher Landing around 5 p.m. on Saturday. First responders launched a search and rescue operation as soon as the report came in. On Sunday morning, the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that they were actively continuing the search for the 20-year-old Richardson.
Richardson’s family members, who were present during the search, relayed that while her kayak and oars had been located, there was no sign of her since the time of the accident. The family's worst fears were confirmed when her body was eventually discovered.
