A tornado touched down in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, at around 1:20 a.m. near Dort Highway and Reid Road on Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service confirmed it was an EF-2 tornado. This rare event marks only the second observed tornado in February in Southeast Michigan, with the previous one occurring on February 28th, 1974, in southwest Wayne County.

The tornado path went through various areas in Grand Blanc Township, causing damage to houses, uprooting trees, and knocking down power lines. The Grand Blanc City Police Department and Fire Department responded to the situation, evacuating residents to ensure their safety. Fortunately, despite the significant damage to homes in the affected areas, there were no reported injuries.

Consumers Energy worked to repair gas leaks and restore power to residents, though there are still reports of downed power lines in the region. Emergency crews are advising people to avoid certain areas for safety, including Dort Hwy & Reid Road, Dort Hwy & Grand Blanc Road, Dort Hwy & Gibson Road, and Reid Road & Porter Road.

In anticipation of potential power outages due to a Wind Advisory in Genesee County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with expected gusts up to 45 mph, residents are urged to exercise caution. The City of Grand Blanc has announced plans to assist in the cleanup by collecting branches less than 4" in diameter to the curb by Sunday night for pick up on Monday, March 4th.
