**Houston Companies Shine in U.S. News' 2025 Best Places to Work List**
Several Houston-based companies have garnered recognition in U.S. News and World Report's annual "Best Companies to Work For" in 2025. This prestigious list evaluates thousands of public and private companies around the globe using six key metrics, such as work-life balance, compensation, job stability, and career development opportunities.
Making a notable entry, Chevron, the global energy giant, secured top accolades among the publicly traded companies from Houston. Chevron's remarkable statistics, including employment of over 45,000 individuals and an annual revenue of $193.47 billion, underscore its industry impact. Measured particularly high in job stability, employee belongingness, and pay quality, Chevron also featured prominently in specialized lists such as "Best in Energy and Resources," "Best Companies in the South," and "Best for Internships."
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) stood out among Houston's privately held companies. With a workforce between 5,000 and 10,000 and revenue between $1 billion to $10 billion in 2024, ABS was praised for its exceptional work-life balance, job security, and compensation. Additionally, it appeared in the "Best in Engineering and Construction" category.
Other Houston companies also earned spots on various lists. ConocoPhillips, Insperity (located in Kingwood), KBR, Occidental, PROS, and Skyward Specialty Insurance were all recognized for their excellence in different fields ranging from energy and resources to healthcare, engineering, and finance. These companies also found mentions in broader categories such as the "Best Companies in the South" and "Best in Caregiving."
In total, 30 Texas-based companies were honored in the 2025-2026 "Best Places to Work For" lists by U.S. News, with Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth area each hosting 11 top-ranking employers. Among these, Diamondback Energy from Midland retained its position as the sole West Texas representative for the second consecutive year.
In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, numerous respected employers further cemented Texas' reputation as a hub of exemplary workplaces.
