Over the past decade, the experience of attending an NFL game has increasingly become an expensive endeavor. In 2023, the average ticket price saw an 8.6% spike, reaching $120. This rise in costs is largely attributed to the construction of new, more luxurious stadiums with fewer seats but more high-end amenities. For instance, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, which hosted last year’s Super Bowl, is one of the smallest in the league with 65,000 seats, prioritizing luxury boxes and premium seating.
Analyzing data from Team Marketing Report via FinanceBuzz reveals a sharp 39% increase in the overall cost of attending an NFL game since 2013, far outpacing general inflation rates. The Las Vegas Raiders exemplify this trend dramatically. Since relocating and investing in the $1.9 billion Allegiant Stadium, the cost of attending their games has increased by $103 from a decade ago.
The Cleveland Browns have also seen substantial cost increases, with the total expense of attendance nearly doubling compared to 2013. Similarly, the Kansas City Chiefs' recent Super Bowl successes have driven their ticket prices up by 103% over the same period. In 2023, Chiefs tickets on the resale market average at $468, making them the second highest in the league.
Conversely, the Dallas Cowboys have managed to maintain relatively stable game costs over the last ten years. Despite being considered the most valuable sports team globally, ticket prices have decreased by 1%, from $162 in 2013 to $160 in 2023. Similarly, the New York Jets and New England Patriots have also experienced minimal increases in ticket prices.
This data highlights a growing trend where attending an NFL game is less accessible to average fans, cementing it as a luxury more than ever before.
