In a recent announcement at the ACT Expo clean transportation conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dan Priestley, the Senior Manager of the Tesla Semi program, shared that efforts are underway to supply PepsiCo with an additional 50 units of the all-electric Class 8 truck. This expansion comes as a result of the successful pilot program that showcased the impressive real-world performance of the Tesla Semi fleet.

PepsiCo's fleet, comprising of 21 Tesla Semi units, surpassed expectations last year in terms of mileage and overall performance. During the North American Council for Freight Efficiency's Run on Less event, the Tesla Semi consistently outperformed its counterparts by traveling more miles per day on average. Contrary to rumors, the trucks were primarily utilized for hauling beverages rather than lighter loads such as chips.

"We are building more trucks this year. As I mentioned, we're delivering another 50 currently to PepsiCo, and then we're putting more trucks into our operations. We're actually set to deliver some this year to some other customers as well," stated Priestley.

During the Run on Less event, one Tesla Semi from PepsiCo logged an impressive 1,076 miles in a single day. Throughout its journey, the truck made three quick charging stops, utilizing 750-kW fast chargers that brought the battery charge to 47%, 89%, and 52%. Tesla reported that 60% of the total miles covered during the event were with a gross vehicle weight of over 70,000 pounds, closely approaching the 82,000-pound limit for zero-emission Class 8 trucks.

The success of the partnership between Tesla and PepsiCo has paved the way for further collaboration in the clean transportation sector. With plans to deliver more units this year to both PepsiCo and other customers, Tesla remains focused on revolutionizing the trucking industry with its all-electric Semi.
