Tesla Slashes Price of Full Self-Driving Software in US and Canada

In an effort to make its advanced driver assistance features more accessible, Tesla has announced a significant price reduction for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software in the United States and Canada. The company revealed in a post on X that the cost to add the FSD Capability has been decreased from $12,000 to $8,000 in the US, and from $16,000 CAD to $11,000 CAD in Canada.
According to reports by Electrek, Tesla has also discontinued the Enhanced Autopilot option, previously priced at $6,000. Existing Tesla owners who have the Enhanced Autopilot package now have the option to upgrade to FSD for a discounted price of $2,000.
It is important to note that despite its name, Full Self-Driving is not intended to completely replace human drivers at this stage. Tesla emphasizes on its website that the current FSD features "require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous." While the company has been under scrutiny from regulators for years over its driver assistance features, Tesla recently introduced a mandate requiring its staff to provide buyers with a demonstration of FSD prior to taking delivery of their new vehicles.
The recent price drop of the FSD software follows Tesla's decision to reduce the monthly subscription cost for FSD, now referred to as Full Self-Driving (Supervised), from $199/month to $99/month. Additionally, Tesla has reduced the starting prices of its Model Y, Model X, and Model S vehicles by $2,000 each over the weekend.
These changes come on the heels of Tesla's announcement of its first-quarter vehicle delivery figures, which fell below expectations with an eight percent year-over-year drop. The company continues to strive for wider adoption of its advanced autonomous driving technology, with affordability and improved accessibility being key priorities.
With Tesla making efforts to bring down the price of its Full Self-Driving software, more potential buyers may consider taking advantage of the advanced driver assistance features offered by the electric vehicle manufacturer.
