Tesla recently shared a video clip on their Optimus humanoid robot, demonstrating its impressive walking capabilities at one of their testing facilities. The footage was posted on the Tesla Optimus account on X with the caption "Getting my daily steps in." This updated build of the robot showcases its smooth strides as it navigates the area.
CEO Elon Musk had previously shared a video of a second-generation Optimus prototype walking, which revealed a simpler version of the technology compared to the more advanced model shown in the recent video. The company also opened up 61 Optimus job positions, including roles for manufacturing and testing engineers.
The Optimus project was unveiled by Tesla in August 2021, with Musk indicating that the company could potentially start shipping the robots as early as next year. The purpose of these robots is to assist in eliminating dangerous, repetitive, and tedious tasks for humans. Initial production versions of the Optimus robots are expected to be deployed in Tesla's factories.
Recent updates from Tesla have shown significant progress in the Optimus program, with prototypes being able to perform tasks such as folding laundry, balancing effectively, moving their necks, arms, and legs, as well as carrying out tasks that require fine motor skills and decision-making abilities, like sorting blocks into matching categories.
