HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- In a significant development, Nytavion Shaw, one of the four individuals charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Southern Miss football player Marcus "MJ" Daniels Jr., has admitted guilt. Shaw, a 16-year-old from Laurel, Mississippi, entered a plea of guilty to second-degree murder.

The tragic incident took place on June 11, when 21-year-old Daniels was fatally shot while sitting in his car outside his apartment in Hattiesburg. He had impressive stats, tying for the team lead in interceptions with three and making 29 tackles across 12 games. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 195 pounds, Daniels had transitioned to the safety position for the upcoming 2024 season and was anticipated to start again.
As the legal proceedings continue, bond has been denied for the three other individuals charged in the case. Their trials are yet to commence.
