**Tampa International Airport to Suspend Operations Due to Hurricane Helene**

Tampa International Airport (TPA) will halt all commercial and cargo flights starting at 2 a.m. on Thursday in anticipation of Hurricane Helene. The airport plans to remain operational through Wednesday but aims to resume services on Friday, depending on post-storm safety assessments. Travellers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight schedule updates.

In preparation for the hurricane, the airport along with its partners will spend the time before suspension securing jet bridges, ground equipment, and any remaining aircraft. Moreover, other public airports managed by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority—namely Peter O. Knight, Tampa Executive, and Plant City Airports—will also close operations at the same time on Thursday.

TPA, including the Main Terminal and its Airsides, will not be open to the general public during this period and is not designed to serve as a shelter for either people or vehicles. The airport's reopening is contingent upon a thorough damage assessment, which will start as soon as conditions permit a safe evaluation. Coordination with the Transportation Security Administration and airlines will be a critical factor in determining the exact timing of the reopening, with the priority focused on roadway safety, facility readiness, and adequate staffing.

Passengers are encouraged to keep in close contact with their airlines to receive the most current flight information. Although TPA will provide announcements regarding operational impacts caused by the hurricane, the airlines hold responsibility for maintaining their flight schedules. Travelers should also monitor weather forecasts closely, especially for areas affecting their travel plans. For real-time updates, follow TPA’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) @FlyTPA.
