In a recent reveal, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick shed light on the publisher’s decision to reschedule the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to May next year. Rockstar Games, the developer behind the highly anticipated title, initially aimed for a fall 2025 debut. However, persistent whispers of a delay proved accurate when, earlier this month, Rockstar confirmed the new release date of 26th May next year. The studio stressed the additional time was crucial for meeting the high-quality standards expected by fans.

Strauss Zelnick elaborated on the delay, emphasizing Rockstar’s pursuit of perfection. He explained to IGN that as a game nears completion, the extent of the necessary final touches become evident. In GTA 6's case, it was clear that a small extension would enable Rockstar to fully realize its creative vision without any constraints. Zelnick expressed strong support for the decision, despite his personal regret over the necessity of delays.

Zelnick also addressed concerns about another potential delay. He suggested this was unlikely, citing Take-Two's track record of adhering to set release dates historically. His reassurance aims to bolster confidence among fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series.

Despite the postponement, Take-Two remains poised for a significant year. With scheduled releases including Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, and new installments of NBA 2K and WWE 2K, the company faces an exciting slate in the upcoming financial year. Meanwhile, fans of the franchise can dive into the recently published trailer, which showcases impressive realism, detailed environments, and advanced ray tracing, to satiate their anticipation for what is to come.
