In a recent interview at TD Cowen's 52nd Annual Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed his belief that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) could achieve unparalleled success in the gaming industry. Zelnick, who heads the company that owns Rockstar Games and the GTA franchise, cited the tremendous growth of the gaming industry since the release of GTA 5 as a key factor behind this potential.

According to Zelnick, the gaming landscape has evolved significantly since the launch of GTA 5. Reflecting on the earlier days of the franchise, he mentioned that GTA was once in close competition with Call of Duty as one of the biggest franchises in the business. However, with time, GTA has emerged as "the number one entertainment property of all time, across all forms of entertainment," after GTA 5 sold over 200 million units.

Zelnick highlighted the historic success of GTA 5, pointing to its record-breaking announcement trailer and the absence of microtransactions and a dedicated GTA Online version at the time. With the current state of the industry, he believes that the potential for a game as ambitious as GTA 6 is unprecedented.

"The big titles continue to perform, and with the history of the entertainment business, the big and better only get bigger and better, and the mediocre go away, and the stuff in the middle either has to get really really good or it also goes away," Zelnick explained. He emphasized that the gaming landscape favors exceptional titles, and with Take-Two's resources and track record, they have the ability to support a hit title that surpasses anything seen in the industry so far.

Given the tremendous amount of hype surrounding GTA 6 and the strong financial position of its parent company, Rockstar Games, Zelnick expressed confidence that if the studio manages to deliver an amazing and flawless video game, Take-Two will have the capacity to support a title that is unmatched in the industry.
