In an interview with Euractiv, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström called upon NATO to create more "strategic difficulties" in order to curb Russia's behavior. Billström emphasized the importance of ceasing the aggression against Ukraine, urging NATO to take a more active role in addressing the ongoing conflict.

Highlighting Russia's irresponsible conduct and its threat to the world through nuclear rhetoric and attempts to restore its former empire, Billström stressed the need to put an end to Russia's actions. The foreign minister expressed his concern over the lack of action by NATO in countering Russia's behavior towards independent sovereign states.

Responding to French President Emmanuel Macron's suggestion of "strategic ambiguity" and the potential deployment of Western troops in Ukraine, Billström stated that Sweden, while acknowledging the ongoing debate, did not currently support the proposal to train Ukrainian personnel on Ukrainian soil.

Billström underscored the urgency for action, emphasizing that not all countries comprehend the seriousness of the conflict and the need to address it promptly. He highlighted that stopping the aggression against Ukraine should be the first priority in order to curb Russia's actions.

Regarding the provision of military equipment to Ukraine, Billström emphasized that the issue comes down to political leadership and political will, rather than industrial capacity. He noted that the United States and Europe possess greater joint production capacity than Russia, implying that there is no shortage of resources.

In a bid to support Ukraine, Sweden announced its participation in the Czech Republic's initiative to procure ammunition for Ukraine from third countries. Sweden has allocated EUR 30 million towards this endeavor, aiming to strengthen Ukraine's position in the ongoing conflict.

As tensions continue to mount between Russia and the West, the Swedish Foreign Minister's call for stronger strategic measures from NATO emphasizes the need for concerted action to address Russia's aggressive behavior and protect Ukraine's sovereignty.
