**SunFed Produce, LLC Recalls Cucumbers Due to Salmonella Concerns**
SunFed Produce, LLC has initiated a significant recall of whole fresh American cucumbers amid concerns they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall includes all sizes of cucumbers packaged in either bulk cardboard containers with the "SunFed" label or generic white boxes and black plastic crates bearing a sticker with the name "Agrotato, S.A. de C.V."
The potentially affected cucumbers were sold from October 12, 2024, through November 26, 2024, and have been distributed across multiple states in the U.S. including Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Additionally, they reached consumers in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Ontario through foodservice and retail outlets.
This recall was prompted after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) informed SunFed of a link between their cucumbers and several reported cases of salmonellosis between October 12 and November 15, 2024. As a precaution, SunFed has been contacting all its direct buyers to ensure they are aware of and can act upon the recall. It is important to note that no other products from SunFed or its suppliers are implicated in this recall.
Consumers who have purchased these cucumbers are strongly advised not to consume, serve, use, or distribute the recalled products. Surfaces that may have come into contact with these cucumbers should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to prevent cross-contamination. Any recalled cucumbers should be disposed of immediately to ensure they are not consumed.
If consumers are uncertain whether they have purchased the recalled cucumbers, they are encouraged to contact their retailer for clarification. Those who have consumed the affected product and feel unwell should reach out to their healthcare provider for advice.
For additional information, SunFed has provided a recall hotline to assist consumers. Craig Slate, President of SunFed, emphasized the company's commitment to food safety, stating, "As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the implicated ranch to determine the possible cause." He reiterated that consumer health and wellness have been SunFed's priorities for over 30 years.
