In an exciting announcement, Capcom has confirmed that Street Fighter 6 will be receiving Year 2 content, as the first year of updates and additions to the game comes to a close. The news was revealed during the Capcom Highlights showcase, where fans were treated to a highly anticipated Akuma teaser trailer.

During the showcase, SF6 Director Takayuki Nakayama expressed his excitement about the game's progress, stating, "It feels like the year passed by very quickly. The development team has been working incredibly hard to continue creating a variety of content, and we've been watching all types of players enjoying the game on a regular basis. A lot has happened in the last year, and it truly has flown by."

In Year 2, players can not only use Akuma in matches but also encounter him as a master in World Tour, along with other characters from Year 1. Players will have the opportunity to become Akuma's students and embark on various new missions. Additionally, a new stage called Gokuento will be available in the World Tour mode.

Nakayama also mentioned that the development team is working on sound-related features and considering events for the Battle Hub. While specific details about Year 2 content remain undisclosed, Nakayama's statement confirmed that work on expanding the game is already underway.

With the release of Akuma scheduled for this Spring, Year 2 is projected to begin in the summer months, possibly in June or July. As fans eagerly anticipate the new additions, the roster for Year 2 is likely already chosen and being produced. However, it is still unclear if the season 2 balance update will be released alongside Akuma or later when Year 2 officially commences.

The confirmation of Year 2 content has sparked speculation among the Street Fighter community. Will Capcom continue with four fighters per year, or will they increase the number to six, similar to Street Fighter 5's approach? As the development team perfects Akuma for his impending release, the rest of the fighting game division is likely immersed in Year 2 plans.

While fans may need to wait a few more months for a comprehensive picture of what to expect in Year 2, it is anticipated that new World Tour updates, stages, and additional content will be included. Capcom is expected to provide more information on the future of Street Fighter 6 in the coming months, allowing fans to plan their strategies and sharpen their skills for the challenges that lie ahead.
