A stolen tow truck wreaked havoc during a high-speed chase near Washington, D.C., on Friday evening. The suspect, who was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run prior to the chase, drove the stolen truck into at least one police car and 10 civilian vehicles on the inner loop of Interstate 495 at the Greenbelt Metro Station.

According to Maryland State Police (MSP), the suspect initially fled the hit-and-run scene in a Ford Ranger before switching to the stolen tow truck belonging to the Maryland Department of Transportation. Troopers from Maryland State Police College Park responded to reports of the incident.

The chase spanned over two hours as the suspect drove recklessly, ramming into civilians and officers across multiple jurisdictions. It eventually came to a halt around 6:30 p.m. in the Silver Spring area after the stolen truck stopped in the woods. Officers used batons to smash the vehicle's windows and extract the suspect.

The suspect, who was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, was apprehended by the Montgomery County Department of Police. The vehicle was located in Calverton, Maryland, around 5:50 p.m.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and the circumstances surrounding the high-speed chase.
