**Steelers Prepare for Colts Amidst Injury Challenges**
The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for their Sunday clash against the Indianapolis Colts, but they are also grappling with multiple injuries as the week kicks off. Linebacker Alex Highsmith is among those sidelined, having sustained a groin injury in the win against the Los Angeles Chargers. With Highsmith out, the Steelers are looking to Nick Herbig and DeMarvin Leal to step up. Coach Mike Tomlin emphasized Leal’s positional flexibility, noting that he has been training both as an outside linebacker and on the defensive line since last season.
Herbig has already shown his capability, filling in for Highsmith during the Chargers game. Tomlin praised Herbig’s consistent work ethic and self-belief, attributes that attract positive attention from both coaches and veteran players. As Herbig steps up, the team’s quarterback situation remains unchanged. Justin Fields is preparing to start, while Russell Wilson’s status is still being evaluated throughout the week.
Russell Wilson had a limited practice schedule on Wednesday, with his participation hinging on the progress of his recovery. Tomlin stressed that decisions regarding the team's starting quarterback will be made as dictated by Wilson's health and practice performance. Tight end MyCole Pruitt, who missed last week's game due to a knee injury, also did not practice on Wednesday and his availability remains uncertain.
Further injury concerns include running back Jaylen Warren and guard Isaac Seumalo. Warren, who has a knee injury, did not practice on Wednesday after being pulled from the Chargers game by Tomlin. Seumalo, yet to play in the regular season due to his pectoral injury, participated in a limited capacity on Wednesday. Tomlin indicated that the team would monitor Seumalo’s participation to determine his readiness for the upcoming game.
In roster moves, the Steelers placed defensive back Cory Trice Jr. on the Reserve/Injured List and signed defensive back James Pierre from the practice squad. Additionally, after placing tackle Troy Fautanu on the Reserve/Injured List, the team signed Calvin Anderson to the roster. Anderson brings experience from his time with the Patriots, Jets, and Broncos, having started in 14 games out of 46 career appearances.
This week’s injury report includes multiple key players from both teams. For the Steelers, Russell Wilson (calf) and DeShon Elliott (quadricep) were limited, among others. The Colts' report lists Kenny Moore II (hip) and Kwity Paye (quadricep) as non-participants, highlighting the challenges both teams face as they prepare for their matchup.
