Star Trek Actor Kenneth Mitchell Passes Away at 49 After Battle with ALS

Kenneth Mitchell, best known for his roles in Star Trek: Discovery, Jericho, and Captain Marvel, has sadly passed away at the age of 49 due to complications of ALS, his family announced on Saturday. Mitchell had bravely battled the disease for five and a half years before his passing. He played various characters in Star Trek: Discovery, including three Klingon characters in the first two seasons and Aurellio in Season 3 as his illness progressed.
Mitchell publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis in 2020 in an interview with People, describing the moment as a shock and disbelief. Despite his health challenges, Mitchell continued to work on projects he was passionate about, including voicing characters in Star Trek: Lower Decks and portraying Joseph Danvers in Captain Marvel.
In addition to his notable acting roles, Mitchell was recognized for his portrayal of Eric Green in CBS' Jericho and Ralph Cox in sports biopic Miracle. He leaves behind his wife, Susan, their children Lilah and Kallum, his parents, in-laws, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of gifts, the family has requested donations be made towards ALS research or directed towards supporting Mitchell's children. StarTrek.com also shared a tribute to Mitchell, highlighting his dedication to his craft and the inspiration he found in being part of the Star Trek franchise.
