In a tense overnight confrontation near Burnsville's Buck Hill, two police officers sustained injuries during a standoff with a woman. The incident occurred at Sunny Acres Manufactured Home Community on Buck Hill Road, after authorities received a report of gunshots coming from inside a residence at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
As a precautionary measure, police evacuated nearby homes and instructed residents to stay inside their houses while negotiations with the suspect, who had barricaded herself inside, took place. The situation continued for several hours, with law enforcement officers attempting to peacefully resolve the standoff.
Authorities managed to apprehend the suspect at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, thanks to the assistance of a K-9 unit. The woman was then transported to a local hospital, where medical professionals determined her injuries to be non-life-threatening.
Unfortunately, this incident comes on the heels of a tragic event that occurred just six weeks prior. During that incident, two Burnsville officers and a city firefighter lost their lives in a fatal shooting during a separate standoff.
In this latest standoff, two officers belonging to the Tri-City Tactical Team sustained minor injuries and were subsequently transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
The Burnsville Police Department has not disclosed specific details regarding the nature of the injuries sustained by the officers, the identity of the suspect, or any potential charges that may be filed.
Investigations into the incident are currently underway, as authorities work to uncover the circumstances leading up to the gunshots and the subsequent standoff.
Residents of Burnsville and the surrounding areas are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement. The community is encouraged to support the injured officers' recovery and to remember the lives lost in the previous tragic event.
