The Squid Game actor, Oh Young-soo, who gained international fame for his portrayal of contestant 001 on the hit Netflix series, has been found guilty of indecent assault in a South Korean court. As reported by the New York Times, Oh was convicted of inappropriately touching an unidentified actress on multiple occasions in August and September 2017.

The accusations against Oh included kissing the actress's cheek and making sexually inappropriate comments. The court ruling resulted in an eight-month suspended sentence for Oh, with Judge Jeong Yeon-ju also ordering him to attend 40 hours of classes on sexual violence.

Despite the verdict, Oh maintains his innocence and plans to appeal the decision. Prior to his role in Squid Game, Oh had a distinguished career as a stage actor in South Korea, appearing in over 200 plays since 1968 and earning several awards. However, the Netflix series propelled him to global recognition, making him the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe for his performance. He was also nominated for an Emmy.

However, since the official charges were filed against him in 2022, Oh's career has suffered a setback. He has been excluded from the cast of Squid Game season 2, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix later this year. Additionally, he was dropped from the South Korean play Love Letter.

The verdict against Oh raises questions about his future in the entertainment industry, as well as the ongoing discourse around issues of sexual assault and misconduct. The case serves as a reminder that even individuals who achieve significant success can face legal consequences for their actions.

As the legal process unfolds, Oh's appeal will determine the course of his personal and professional life moving forward. The outcome will be closely watched by fans and industry insiders alike, as the fallout from this case continues to reverberate in the world of entertainment.
