The Paris Olympics 2024 came to a magnificent conclusion with a stunning closing ceremony that left spectators in awe. Following the extravagant opening ceremony earlier in the Games, the closing event promised a Hollywood-inspired spectacle. Tom Cruise, renowned actor and stuntman, wowed the audience with his epic stunts, while an incredible lineup of performers including Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers took the stage. The ceremony also showcased French talent with bands Phoenix and Air, along with Belgian pop star Angele.

As the torch was passed to Los Angeles, the host of the 2028 Summer Games, the closing ceremony celebrated the achievements of the United States. Gold medalist swimmer Katie Ledecky and rower Nick Mead proudly carried the American flag, as Team USA topped the medal count with an impressive 126 medals. It was a remarkable victory, surpassing China, the UK, and France. Speaking of France, the host country made history by breaking a 100-year record with 64 medals, including 16 golds, a feat that filled the nation with pride.

The ceremony took place under tight security measures, reflecting the heightened vigilance following recent terrorist threats. Thousands of police forces, including nearly 2,000 agents from overseas, ensured the safety of the 71,538 spectators and over 8,200 athletes from more than 200 delegations. Despite the security concerns, the event proceeded smoothly, underscoring the dedication and meticulous planning of the organizers.

The closing ceremony was not only a visual spectacle but also delivered powerful messages. Artistic director Thomas Jolly and executive director Thierry Reboul designed a show that explored the origins and values of the Olympics through an operatic and dystopian lens. With a focus on raising awareness about the fragility of our world and the need to preserve our values, the ceremony employed science-fiction elements to engage and inspire the audience.

Throughout the Paris Olympics, the city's iconic landmarks provided breathtaking backdrops for the competitions. From beach volleyball by the Eiffel Tower to cycling races through the streets of Paris, the events captivated the attention of over 1 million spectators, including notable figures like Nicole Kidman. The Stade de France, Paris La Defense Arena, and Bercy concert hall served as indoor venues, adding to the grandeur of the Games.

French singer-songwriter Zaho de Sagazan kicked off the closing ceremony at the Jardin des Tuileries with a performance of Édith Piaf's iconic song "Sous le Ciel de Paris." Olympic breakout star Léon Marchand, who won four gold medals and one silver, carried the Olympic lantern from the cauldron to the Stade de France, receiving a warm welcome from the crowd.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly Tom Cruise's arrival, as the actor waved to adoring fans before his electrifying stunt performance. The ceremony took on a post-apocalyptic atmosphere as a Golden Voyager descended from the stadium's top, symbolizing the rebirth of the Olympic Games. The voyager's acrobatic display, accompanied by the Greek flag and the raising of the five Olympic rings, mesmerized the audience.

Closing the night with a musical crescendo, French indie band Phoenix delivered an unforgettable performance of their hit song "Liztomania," leaving the crowd energized and inspired by the spirit of the Olympics.

In the end, the Paris Olympics 2024 went beyond just a sports event; it was a celebration of unity, excellence, and the enduring human spirit. The Games will forever be remembered for their grandeur, remarkable achievements, and the lasting impact they left on the world stage.
