SpaceX is gearing up for another launch as it prepares to send a Falcon 9 rocket into space from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Sunday morning. This launch attempt comes after the company had to reschedule the launch of a Northrop Grumman Cygnus spacecraft from Florida due to unfavorable weather conditions.
The targeted liftoff time for the Starlink 11-1 mission is set for 12:24 a.m. PDT (3:24 a.m. EDT, 0724 UTC) from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E). Viewers can tune into live coverage provided by Spaceflight Now, which will begin approximately 30 minutes prior to liftoff.
Impressively, the Falcon 9 first stage booster assigned to this mission, known as B1082, will be making its sixth launch. B1082 has previously carried out missions for the USSF-62 as well as four previous Starlink missions.
After approximately eight missions following liftoff, the B1082 booster is expected to successfully land on the renowned SpaceX droneship, named "Of Course I Still Love You." This landing will mark the 98th landing on OCISLY and the 334th booster landing overall for SpaceX.
The upcoming Starlink mission will involve deploying 23 new satellites into orbit. With this addition, there will be over 6,200 active satellites currently orbiting our planet, as estimated by astrophysicist and expert orbital tracker, Jonathan McDowell.
Furthermore, in other Starlink news, the satellite internet service is now accessible across the island nation of Tonga. Residents of Tonga can now enjoy the benefits of high-speed internet provided by Starlink.
SpaceX's relentless dedication to advancing space exploration and expanding its Starlink fleet continues to captivate the world. Be sure to catch the live coverage of the Starlink 11-1 mission as SpaceX aims to make yet another successful launch and deployment.
