In pursuit of redemption after narrowly missing out on the SEC regular-season title, the 15th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks made a strong statement in the SEC Tournament by defeating Arkansas 80-66. Led by Collin Murray-Boyles, who scored 24 points, the Gamecocks showcased their championship-contending abilities in an impressive victory.

The No. 5 seed, South Carolina took control of the game with a decisive 16-0 run that spanned halftime, cementing their place in the quarterfinals. On Friday, they will face off against No. 12 Auburn, the fourth seed, aiming to avenge a resounding 101-61 defeat suffered earlier in the regular season.

This triumph not only marked South Carolina's first win in the SEC Tournament since 2018 but also tied the 2017 Final Four team for the most wins in program history. It further solidified AP SEC coach of the year Lamont Paris' position, as he earned a significant pay raise and contract extension.

B.J. Mack contributed 19 points to South Carolina's commanding performance, while Ta'Lon Cooper added 11 points to the scoreboard. Arkansas, the 12th seed, was led by Khalif Battle's 20 points, with Makhi Mitchell adding 15 and Jalen Graham contributing 11.

Having rallied from a 14-point halftime deficit in their previous game against Vanderbilt, Arkansas faced a quick turnaround in this contest. They started strong, jumping out to an 11-3 lead, but South Carolina quickly regained momentum with Murray-Boyles leading the way. The Gamecocks closed the first half with a 6-0 run, securing a 38-35 lead.

The second half saw South Carolina seize control, scoring the first 10 points to build a comfortable lead. They maintained their dominance throughout the remainder of the game, leading by as much as 21 points in the final minutes.

For Arkansas, this tournament concluded with a .500 record at 31-31. They fell just short of reaching the quarterfinals, a stage where they have been highly successful with a 16-3 record since joining the SEC. Their disappointment was further compounded by missing out on a spot in the NCAA Tournament, a rarity since Eric Musselman took over as coach.

South Carolina's defense, known to be the best in the SEC, was on full display during the game. This marked their 25th game of the season holding opponents below 70 points, and they maintained their unbeaten record of 21-0 when achieving this feat, including 11-0 in conference play. Furthermore, the Gamecocks improved to 11-0 when scoring at least 70 points against an SEC opponent.

With a chance at redemption in the quarterfinals against Auburn, South Carolina will look to erase the memory of their previous blowout loss. Coach Paris remains optimistic, hoping for an improved performance from his team and the avoidance of another stellar shooting display from their opponents.

As the SEC Tournament continues, the Gamecocks have made a resounding statement with their convincing win over Arkansas, establishing themselves as a formidable contender for the championship title.
