**Landslide Shuts Down Northbound Lanes of I-5 in Bellingham**
Early Sunday morning, a landslide forced the closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Bellingham, resulting in significant disruption. The incident occurred around 4 a.m., as confirmed by Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rommie Smith.
As of 12:15 p.m., the closure remains in effect just north of Iowa Street, with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) estimating approximately 2,000 cubic yards of debris having spilled across the interstate. Multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, but fortunately, no injuries were reported, according to WSP.
Efforts to clear the debris have involved calling in a specialty tow truck to aid in the removal of a semi-truck that became stuck during the landslide. WSDOT has not yet provided an estimated reopening time, leaving drivers to seek alternative routes for their travel plans.
Motorists are advised to remain patient and follow WSDOT recommendations while the cleanup continues. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
