LAS VEGAS - Tragedy struck an east valley business in Las Vegas on Tuesday morning, as two women were fatally shot and a man was injured. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect, who was on a bicycle, managed to flee the scene, but authorities believe that he does not pose an ongoing threat to the community.
The incident was reported around 3:25 a.m. when a shot spotter alert indicated multiple gunshots in a parking lot near the intersection of East Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. As law enforcement officers were en route, they received distress calls from individuals inside the business reporting a shooting.
The shooting initially began in the parking lot of Pocket Change, a 24-hour slot machine, beer, and wine establishment, before shots were fired through an open door into the business. Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim in the parking lot and two others inside the business.
Tragically, the first victim, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second female victim, also in her 20s, succumbed to her injuries at Sunrise Hospital approximately an hour after the shooting. The third victim, identified as a man, is currently in stable condition at the same hospital.
Las Vegas Metro Lt. Jason Johansson revealed that the shooter, described as a black male dressed in black and wearing a mask, potentially a medical mask, was seen riding a bicycle southbound on Nellis towards the business. After the incident, the suspect swiftly fled the scene eastbound on Tropicana.
Johansson indicated that there is a strong possibility that one of the victims may have been targeted by the shooter, as they potentially knew each other. The investigation is still in its early stages, and authorities are urging the public's assistance. Law enforcement will be conducting extensive searches for surveillance footage and witnesses in the area.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect's whereabouts is urged to contact LVMPD Homicide at (702) 828-3521. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers can be reached at (702) 385-5555.
The community of Las Vegas is left in shock and mourning following this tragic act of violence. Authorities are working diligently to bring the perpetrator to justice and provide support to the victims' families during this difficult time.
