Severe weather swept through southeast Wisconsin on Sunday night, leaving destruction in its wake. Reports of possible tornadoes causing damage in several communities were confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Monday.

One tornado was confirmed to have touched down on May 26 at 5:00 p.m., approximately five miles east-northeast of Footville in Rock County. The NWS classified it as an EF0 tornado, with peak wind speeds reaching approximately 80 mph.

Significant damage was reported in Milton, Rock County, with multiple trees falling on houses. The Storms Prediction Center (SPC) also reported additional damage consistent with possible tornadoes in other parts of southeast Wisconsin. In Whitewater, Jefferson County, the SPC indicated that a tornado touched down northwest of the city. In Fort Atkinson, Jefferson County, a probable tornado was reported, causing a few trees to be downed.

The NWS is expected to conduct surveys in the coming days to confirm if tornadoes touched down in these affected areas and determine the severity of the damage. The classification of the tornadoes is anticipated to range from EF0 (65-85 mph) to possibly EF1 (86-110 mph), based on initial observations.

In response to the possible tornado damage, the Rock County Sheriff's Office and the City of Milton Police Department promptly deployed resources to the affected area. Reports indicate that the severe weather event caused extensive damage, including multiple downed trees. Some of these fallen trees resulted in significant structural harm to houses.

Emergency utility crews from Alliant Energy and We Energies were dispatched to address the downed power lines, while the Rock County Highway Department, Milton Public Works, and Town of Koshkonong Public Works worked together to clear the roadways of fallen trees. The Lakeside Fire Department and Rock County Emergency Management joined forces to assist in the response efforts.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported thus far amidst the severe weather and subsequent tornado activity. Authorities and residents remain vigilant as the NWS continues its assessment and evaluation of the damage caused by the storms.
