In a disappointing turn of events, Sergio Garcia, the Spanish golfer and member of LIV Golf, fell short in his bid to qualify for the Open Championship on Tuesday. The 44-year-old golfer, who voiced his frustration at being put on the clock for slow play during his final qualifier, missed the cut by just two strokes after shooting 71 and 70 over two rounds at Liverpool's West Lancashire Golf Club.

Garcia's score of 3 under tied for sixth place at West Lancashire, where only four spots were available for advancement to Royal Troon, the venue for the upcoming Open Championship scheduled for July 18-21. Reflecting on his performance, Garcia expressed his disappointment but acknowledged the challenging conditions he faced, stating, "It would be nice to make The Open my 100th major, but it was tough conditions and sometimes things don't go your way. I tried everything that I could and that's all I can ask myself for."

The Spanish golfer had earlier voiced his frustrations about being impeded by fans during play. He stated that marshals did their best to manage the situation, but several delays occurred due to people walking in front of the tee and on the fairway, resulting in a rushed game for Garcia and his fellow competitors.

Despite his longstanding reputation as a formidable player, Garcia has never won the Open Championship. His closest attempt came in 2007 when he lost to Padraig Harrington in a playoff. In 2014, he finished in a tie for second place. Garcia's sole major victory came at the 2017 Masters.

Meanwhile, in qualifying events held elsewhere, notable golfers such as Justin Rose and Abraham Ancer managed to secure their spots in the final field. Rose, a veteran golfer exempt from qualifying due to his previous achievements, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to compete in the highly regarded Open Championship.

With the recent qualifiers, the total number of players confirmed for the Open Championship stands at 149. Additional spots are still up for grabs, with two to be determined at the John Deere Classic, three at the Scottish Open, and five granted to European Tour players based on their performance in the Race to Dubai after this week.

As the anticipation builds ahead of the 152nd Open Championship, fans and players alike eagerly await the final field to take shape in what promises to be a thrilling competition.
