Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) discussed her advocacy for federal marijuana descheduling during an interview with Pod Save America, where she hinted at having conversations with Biden administration officials regarding the reclassification of cannabis. Warren expressed her push for administrative cannabis reform that goes beyond simple rescheduling. She jokingly participated in a hypothetical game where she chose Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as her top pick for a "dream blunt rotation" partner, while declining to select anyone for a "nightmare blunt rotation."

The senator has led efforts for DEA to deschedule cannabis and emphasized the need to ease marijuana legalization. Warren stated, "it shouldn't be that hard" to legalize marijuana and urged the DEA to deschedule it, emphasizing that "we don't need to be terrified of this stuff."

While Warren highlighted the DEA's authority in scheduling decisions, experts challenge the idea that the Biden administration could unilaterally legalize marijuana without Congress. Amid ongoing discussions, DEA is reviewing a recommendation to reschedule cannabis to Schedule III of the CSA. Warren also pointed out the limitations posed by the Schedule I designation on cannabis research.

Vice President Kamala Harris's office has engaged in discussions with individuals who received pardons for marijuana possession under President Biden's clemency proclamations. Harris faced criticism for suggesting a policy change on federal marijuana, despite the ongoing review process and unmet campaign promises to decriminalize marijuana.

Rumors of imminent DEA scheduling announcements were dismissed by a Biden administration official, indicating that no immediate action is expected. Warren's active advocacy for marijuana descheduling reflects a broader movement towards cannabis reform within the current administration.
