This expanded 32-team tournament will be held across the United States next summer, featuring top clubs from every confederation, aiming to crown the best club team in the world. The matches in Seattle will take place at Lumen Field.
The Seattle Sounders FC have secured a spot in this international event, making history as the first—and currently only—MLS team to win a Concacaf Champions Cup title in 2022. "Hosting the FIFA Club World Cup at Lumen Field is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our fans and our organization," said Sounders FC Majority Owner Adrian Hanauer. "It's historic that the first edition of this new tournament will be played in our country and our city."
The 2025 tournament introduces a new format with 32 participating teams. It will run from June 15 to July 13, 2025, with matches taking place throughout the United States. Thirty teams have already qualified, including notable clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Juventus. Two more spots remain for the 2024 Copa Libertadores winner and a selected representative from the host country.
This event marks a significant milestone for the Sounders, as it will be the first time in their 50-year history that they face UEFA or CONMEBOL teams in competitive play. "The ability to share this competition with our Alliance Members is beyond special," said Sounders FC President of Business Operations Hugh Weber. "It's extraordinary to play in FIFA's global club championship on home turf."
For Sounders fans looking to attend the matches at Lumen Field, the club is coordinating with FIFA on access for Alliance Members. "It's an honor to represent Seattle and American soccer on this stage," commented Sounders FC General Manager & Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel. "Our team is excited and ready for the challenge."
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup format includes a Group Stage with eight groups of four teams each, playing in a single-match round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16, followed by a single-match Knockout Stage leading up to the Final. There will be no third-place match.
In the upcoming tournament, teams from Liga MX—CF Monterrey, Club Léon, and Pachuca—will also represent Concacaf. An additional club from the United States will be selected as the host country qualifier.
Tonight, the Sounders are also hosting Houston Dynamo FC at Lumen Field in a crucial match for playoff positioning in the Western Conference.
