The Memorial Day weekend forecast for the Twin Cities area calls for a mix of clouds and sun, with temperatures remaining seasonable and occasional chances of rain. According to the College of DuPage Weather, scattered showers and storms are anticipated to move through the region on Friday.

In the morning, showers and thunderstorms will track north and northeast, affecting northern Minnesota for much of Friday. However, southern Minnesota can expect a dry break with some afternoon sunshine. Scattered storms may redevelop across southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin, mainly along and east of Interstate 35. While a couple of these storms could be strong, they are not predicted to be severe.

Southern Minnesota will experience warmer temperatures, reaching the low 70s as the sun breaks out later in the day. Meanwhile, highs in northern Minnesota will range from the 50s to 60s. Winds will pick up behind a cool front that sweeps through the state, shifting from southeast to west at speeds of 15-30 mph.

Looking ahead to the holiday weekend, Saturday is expected to be the most pleasant day, offering the most sunshine and drier conditions. However, Sunday may bring scattered showers and cooler temperatures, resulting in more cloud cover. On Memorial Day, there are chances for a few isolated to spotty showers or a thunderstorm.

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model indicates a hit and miss nature of the showers throughout the weekend. Temperatures will remain seasonable, mostly in the 60s and low to mid-70s. It is worth noting that this will be the coolest Memorial Weekend since 2021, with the previous two years experiencing higher temperatures in the 80s and even reaching 90 degrees. In 2018, the Twin Cities recorded its hottest Memorial Day with a scorching 100 degrees.

As residents prepare for the long weekend, it is advised to stay informed about the changing weather patterns and be prepared for possible showers. Nevertheless, there will still be plenty of opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities and festivities while adhering to any necessary safety guidelines.
