As the city of Savannah prepares for the potential impact of Tropical Storm Debby, Mayor Van Johnson has announced plans to issue an Emergency Order for the city. The order is set to be effective from noon on Sunday through Friday, in anticipation of possible historic flooding events. Chatham County, including the city of Savannah, is currently under multiple weather alerts, including a Tropical Storm Watch, Storm Surge Watch, and Flood Watch. Residents residing in low-lying areas are advised to stay alert and be prepared for possible flooding. In an effort to assist residents and businesses, the city will be providing sand and sandbags ahead of the expected rainfall.

Residents are advised that a maximum of five sandbags will be available per household and they are requested to bring their own shovels in order to fill the bags. The sandbags will be distributed from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, at designated locations throughout the city. Supplies are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

To ensure the community is well-informed and prepared, the city of Savannah has provided additional resources for residents. For information on preparedness, residents can visit the city's official website. Additionally, for real-time updates on flooding in the area, residents can access a dedicated webpage.

For those unable to attend the press conference in person, WTOC will be live-streaming the event on their Facebook page. This will allow residents to stay informed about any new developments and measures being taken by the city.

With the issuance of the Emergency Order and the distribution of sandbags, Mayor Van Johnson is taking proactive steps to protect and support the residents of Savannah. The city continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its community members as Tropical Storm Debby approaches.
