In an emotional statement outside the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Savannah Chrisley, the daughter of Todd and Julie Chrisley, addressed the pending appeal of her parents' case. The Chrisleys, known for their reality TV show "Chrisley Knows Best," were convicted in 2022 on charges of bank fraud, tax evasion, and conspiring to defraud the IRS.
Speaking to reporters, Savannah expressed her hope and prayers that the judges would be able to see the truth of her parents' situation. She also highlighted the broken state of the federal prison system and emphasized the importance of not forgetting those who are incarcerated.
Currently, Todd Chrisley is serving a 12-year prison sentence at FPC Pensacola, while Julie Chrisley is at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington. The couple had surrendered to authorities in January 2023, following their sentencing to a combined 19 years in prison and three years of supervised release. They were also ordered to pay over $17 million in restitution, a hefty financial burden.
The hearing for the Chrisleys' appeal was scheduled for April 19 at the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta. Savannah took to her Instagram account to invite supporters to join her family for the oral arguments, urging them to dress in business attire and refrain from bringing cell phones.
Accompanied by her grandmother, "Nanny" Faye Chrisley, her brother Grayson Chrisley, and her boyfriend Robert Shiver, Savannah faced a wave of cheers and support from the crowd as they made their way into the court.
The Chrisleys rose to fame in 2014 with their reality TV series "Chrisley Knows Best," which showcased their affluent Southern lifestyle in a lavish mansion in Atlanta. The show even spawned spinoffs, including "Growing Up Chrisley," which centered around the lives of their children, Chase and Savannah.
It's not just the Chrisleys who are seeking an appeal. Their accountant, Peter Tarantino, who was convicted alongside them, is also appealing his three-year prison sentence for conspiracy to defraud the IRS and filing false tax returns. Notably, the couple was acquitted of a state tax evasion charge in Georgia in 2019.
As the Chrisleys await the outcome of their appeal, their family, friends, and fans continue to show their support in the hopes of a favorable resolution.
