### Salmonella Concerns Prompt Recall of Cucumbers and Organic Eggs in the U.S. and Canada

A recall has been issued for cucumbers and organic eggs distributed across several regions in the U.S. and Canada due to potential salmonella contamination. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of cucumbers by SunFed Produce, an Arizona-based company, which took place between October 12 and November 26.

This recall was initiated after the FDA informed SunFed about linked illnesses reported between October 12 and November 15. However, details on the number of affected individuals or specific locations were not disclosed. Consumers who purchased cucumbers during this period are advised to confirm with the store of purchase if their produce is part of the recall.

Additionally, nearly 11,000 cartons of 24-count organic eggs under Costco's Kirkland Signature brand have been recalled from Aldi locations in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. This recall involves cartons with Julian code 327 and a use-by date of January 5, 2025. These eggs were distributed starting November 22. To date, no illnesses have been reported related to this recall. Handsome Brook Farms clarified that these cartons contained eggs "not intended for retail distribution."

Customers in possession of the recalled items should dispose of them or return them to the store for a refund. They should also clean any surfaces or utensils that may have come into contact with these products using hot, soapy water.

Salmonella infection typically manifests with symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps commencing six hours to six days after consuming the contaminated product. Although most individuals recover within a week without medical intervention, vulnerable groups including young children, older adults, and those with compromised immune systems are at risk of severe illness.

Earlier in the summer, a separate outbreak of salmonella linked to cucumbers resulted in 450 reported illnesses in the U.S. The current recall serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and monitoring.
