### Cucumber and Egg Recalls Issued Over Salmonella Concerns

In a precautionary measure, cucumbers distributed to 13 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces, along with organic eggs sold in 25 Costco stores across five southern U.S. states, have been recalled this week due to potential salmonella contamination.

SunFed Produce, an Arizona-based company, announced the recall of cucumbers sold between October 12 and November 26. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed on Thursday that the recall followed reports of illnesses connected to the cucumbers, occurring between October 12 and November 15. Specific details regarding the number of affected individuals or locations have not been disclosed. Consumers who purchased cucumbers during this time frame are urged to verify with the point of purchase if their produce is part of the recall.

Additionally, approximately 11,000 cartons of 24-count organic eggs, under Costco's Kirkland Signature brand, have been recalled. These eggs, distributed in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee, appeared on shelves starting November 22. Handsome Brook Farms disclosed that the cartons included eggs not intended for retail sale. Shoppers should check their cartons for Julian code 327 and a use-by date of January 5, 2025. If the eggs are part of the recall, customers should dispose of them or return them to the store for a full refund.

Consumers are advised to thoroughly cleanse any surfaces and utensils that may have come in contact with the recalled products using hot, soapy water or a dishwasher to mitigate the risk of salmonella infection. Symptoms of salmonella typically manifest six hours to six days after ingestion and include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While most individuals recover without medical intervention within a week, vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems may experience severe complications.

This situation follows a previous salmonella outbreak in cucumbers earlier this summer that affected 450 people in the U.S. Consequently, this recall serves as a cautionary response to prevent further incidents and ensure public health safety.
