In a controversial speech delivered at a youth festival in Sochi, Russian Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev presented a map that raised eyebrows and sparked intense debate. The map showed a significant portion of Ukraine's territory partitioned between Russia, Poland, Romania, and Hungary, leaving only a small section labeled as "Ukraine."

Medvedev expressed that the territory on both banks of the Dnipro River was historically part of Russia's strategic borders, challenging the notion that Ukraine had a distinct identity separate from Russia. He dismissed the title of former Ukrainian president Leonid Kuchma's book, "Ukraine Is Not Russia," stating that the concept should be eradicated entirely, asserting that "Ukraine is definitely Russia."

The Russian Security Council Chairman's remarks intensified as he painted a bleak future for modern Ukraine. He suggested that the citizens of Ukraine would likely become "slaves" in the European panopticon, referencing a concept of all-seeing surveillance. Additionally, he made a disturbing analogy, comparing the United States to a rapist and Ukraine as its victim, ominously hinting that Ukraine could become "expendable material."

Dmitry Medvedev's increasingly denigrating and violent rhetoric towards Ukraine in recent years has fueled concerns and raised alarm bells among international observers. His explicit statement that Ukraine should not exist has struck a nerve given the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government swiftly condemned Medvedev's remarks, calling them a blatant disregard for their country's sovereignty and a dangerous attempt to rewrite history. Ukrainian officials emphasized the importance of respect for international borders and the rights of nations to self-determination.

The international community also expressed their disapproval of Medvedev's comments, with several prominent figures and organizations issuing statements denouncing his rhetoric. Many view this as another troubling sign of the strained relationship between Russia and Ukraine, which has been marred by conflict and territorial disputes.

As tensions continue to simmer between Russia and Ukraine, Medvedev's divisive remarks only serve to further complicate efforts towards finding a peaceful resolution. The international community will be closely watching for any developments regarding the implications of Medvedev's assertions and the impact it may have on regional stability.
