In a concerning development, Russian forces are reportedly gathering significant numbers near Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine, with the intention of launching a major offensive in the Donetsk region. This information was revealed by Illia Yevlash, spokesperson for the operational group overseeing the eastern front line, during an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
Yevlash stated that the Russian troops are concentrating their efforts on making a powerful push towards the strategically important city to the west of Bakhmut, which had fallen to Moscow last May. The ultimate objective is to advance towards Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.
Ukrainian forces, who have been engaged in a relentless battle to counter Russian advances in the Bakhmut direction, have reported a significant increase in Russian aggression. Over the past three weeks, they have faced intense attacks as Moscow troops continuously deploy infantry units and employ various artillery and drone strikes.
As the conflict enters its third year, Russian forces have been tirelessly bombarding Ukrainian defensive positions in an attempt to break through at specific points. While the gains made by Russia have been minimal and slow, they come at a heavy cost. Unfortunately, Ukraine is facing several challenges, including a shortage of reservists and a severe scarcity of artillery shells. This predicament is further exacerbated by dwindling military aid from Western partners.
The situation in eastern Ukraine remains extremely volatile, with the accumulation of Russian forces near Chasiv Yar signaling a potential escalation of hostilities in the already war-torn region. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping to bring about a diplomatic resolution that will restore peace and stability to Ukraine.
