**Rory McIlroy Adopts New TaylorMade Qi35 Driver at RBC Canadian Open**

In a notable equipment change, Rory McIlroy, the defending FedExCup champion, has introduced a TaylorMade Qi35 driver into his bag for the 2025 RBC Canadian Open. This shift marks a significant moment in McIlroy's season, as he navigates the transition to new technology ahead of the U.S. Open at Oakmont.

Earlier in 2025, McIlroy clinched a victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am using his then-preferred TaylorMade Qi10 woods. Initially hesitant to move to the newer Qi35 series, McIlroy experimented with the Qi35 driver and 3-wood during the Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, after only three rounds, he reverted to the Qi10 technology, not entirely comfortable with the new clubs.

McIlroy's season reached a peak when he completed the career Grand Slam by winning the Masters Tournament with his trusted Qi10 driver. Yet, unforeseen circumstances at the 107th PGA Championship pushed McIlroy into a more rapid transition. His Qi10 driver was deemed non-conforming just before the PGA Championship, compelling him to use a backup driver and ultimately finish T47.

Arriving at the RBC Canadian Open, McIlroy showcased his latest adjustment: a TaylorMade Qi35 driver with a shorter build. The driver now features a Qi35 Core head with 9 degrees of loft, a hosel set to "lower," and measures 44 5/8 inches with a Fujikura Ventus Black VeloCore+ 6X shaft. After a challenging first-round 1-over 71 at TPC Toronto, McIlroy discussed his initial impressions, noting both positive strikes and areas that still require fine-tuning.

In addition to the driver, McIlroy has also incorporated a TaylorMade Qi35 15-degree 3-wood, complete with a Fujikura Ventus Black 8X shaft, and swapped his TaylorMade 5-wood for a TaylorMade P770 3-iron. This decision aligns with McIlroy's typical strategy of alternating between a long iron and a 5-wood depending on course conditions.

With the U.S. Open on the horizon, McIlroy's equipment choices suggest a focus on gaining control off the tee, especially given the reports of thick roughs and challenging play at Oakmont.
