In a groundbreaking development, Nyobolt, a British engineering team in collaboration with CALLUM, has unveiled a revolutionary technology that could drastically reduce charging times for electric vehicles (EVs). The new battery technology promises to charge EVs from 10 percent to 80 percent in under five minutes with a 350kW DC charger, twice the speed of the fastest-charging vehicles currently on the road.

What sets Nyobolt's technology apart is its ability to achieve ultra-fast charging without the degradation typically associated with lithium-ion batteries. Unlike other fast-charging methods that limit the charging range to preserve the battery's lifespan, Nyobolt's innovative low-impedance cells ensure sustainability by extending the battery's usable life for up to 600,000 miles. With over 4,000 fast charge cycles, these batteries offer longer-lasting and more sustainable charging options for EV owners.

Testing conducted in a high-performance environment revealed impressive results. The 50Ah 35kWh battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent in a remarkable four minutes and 37 seconds. With a full 100 percent charge, the Nyobolt EV prototype can achieve a range of 155 WLTP miles, defying the common fears associated with charging speed.

Dr. Sai Shivareddy, CEO of Nyobolt, expressed his excitement about the breakthrough technology, stating, "Our extensive research in the UK and the US has unlocked a novel battery technology that is ready and scalable right now. We are enabling the electrification of new products and services currently considered inviable or impossible."

The positive prospects of the new technology have led Nyobolt to pledge the low-volume production of the batteries, potentially reaching 1,000 packs in 2025. The flexible manufacturing model also enables volumes of up to two million cells per year, reflecting their commitment to meeting the growing demands of the market.
