A retired Los Angeles County deputy, Albert Cailbert, has gone missing while on vacation on the Greek island of Amorgos, and his family is working tirelessly to find him. The seasoned hiker and dual citizen of Greece was last seen embarking on a four-hour hike across the island to meet a friend for lunch, as per information provided by his family to Fox 11 News.

Cailbert had left for his hike around 7 a.m. local time on June 11 and failed to arrive at his destination by 3:30 p.m. The Greek Reporter revealed that his last communication was with his sister, to whom he sent a picture of a trail sign. Despite having two phones in his possession, he had not answered either. His friend alerted Greek authorities after he failed to meet for lunch.

As of June 13, Cailbert had been missing for over three days, causing extreme distress to his family. "We're almost on three days here," Cailbert's brother, Oliver Calibet, stated. "There's no water... I'm very distraught." Calibert's loved ones have now organized a search and rescue effort, with a group of family members and friends traveling to the island of Amorgos, according to Fox 11 News.

Meanwhile, other family members have set up a central point of operation at home in Hermosa Beach, where they are manning phones and email to communicate with both the authorities and Cailbert's friend. Cailbert's frequent trips to Amorgos over the past decade were noted by Amorgos' deputy mayor of tourism, Popi Despotidi, who expressed surprise at his disappearance. "It is strange because he is not a person who walked the route for the first time," Despotidi mentioned.

The disappearance of Cailbert occurs amidst a severe high-temperature warning in Greece, including the island of Amorgos, with extreme heat expected to persist until June 13, as reported by The Telegraph. The raging heatwave has prompted authorities to temporarily close down the acropolis. This climate factor raises concerns about Cailbert's well-being as search efforts continue.

Tragically, Cailbert's disappearance follows the recent discovery of the lifeless body of popular British TV presenter Michael Mosley, who went missing on June 5 during a hike in Greece. Mosley's body was found against a fence, having seemingly fallen down a steep slope, according to Lefteris Papakalodoukas, the mayor of Symi where he disappeared.

Additionally, a 74-year-old Dutch tourist on the island of Samos has been missing since Sunday, further heightening concerns for his safety. "Unfortunately, so far we have no news about either of them," said Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou to CNN, mentioning that authorities and volunteers, including air support, are involved in the search for both men.
