In a recent interview with NBC News, Representative Don Bacon, a Nebraska Republican, stated that lawyers hired by Congress have found no specific crime committed by President Joe Biden in the ongoing impeachment probe against him. House Republicans, led by Representatives James Comer of Kentucky and Jim Jordan of Ohio, have been investigating allegations that Biden was involved with and benefited from his son Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings while serving as vice president under former President Barack Obama.

Despite these claims, the Biden administration has consistently denied any wrongdoing, with President Biden calling the impeachment inquiry a "baseless political stunt." Impeachment requires Congress to find the officeholder guilty of a high crime or misdemeanor, with a simple majority in the House needed to move the matter to the Senate for a trial.

During the interview on Meet the Press, Bacon emphasized that no specific crime has been identified by the lawyers on the committee staff. He further suggested that the investigation may be nearing its conclusion, stating, "I think it was important for the American people to see that yes, there's $24 million in foreign money that the family raised, and all the hidden LLC's that the money was moved around it, but that within itself is not a high crime or misdemeanor."

The impeachment inquiry has yet to produce substantial evidence to support its claims. At a recent committee hearing, Representative Jared Moskowitz, a Florida Democrat, challenged Comer and Jordan by motioning to impeach President Biden, questioning why they had not called for a vote when they believed a high crime or misdemeanor had been committed. However, Jordan responded that they adhere to the Constitution and conduct thorough oversight based on facts.

Moskowitz expressed his skepticism, stating, "They're never gonna impeach Joe Biden. It's never gonna happen because they don't have the evidence. This is a show. It's all fake." Meanwhile, Representative Comer has proposed that President Biden testify before the committee on April 16, based on testimonies from former business associates of Hunter Biden, Tony Bobulinski and Jason Galanis, which he claims contradict the president's statements about his involvement in his son's business dealings.

The White House swiftly dismissed Comer's invitation as a "sad stunt at the end of a dead impeachment." As the impeachment probe continues, Biden, the Democratic incumbent, is focused on his reelection campaign, while former President Donald Trump is presumed to be the 2024 Republican Presidential nominee.
