Renowned financier and member of the Rothschild banking family, Lord Jacob Rothschild, has passed away at the age of 87. Hailing from Berkshire and educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford, Lord Rothschild began his career at the family bank, NM Rothschild & Sons, before venturing out to establish his wealth management fund in 1989.

With an estimated fortune of about £825 million, the Rothschild family is a longstanding figure in the world of finance. Described as a multifaceted individual, Lord Rothschild was not only a successful financier but also a patron of the arts, a supporter of charitable causes in Israel and Jewish culture, an environmentalist, and a devoted family member.

Building his financial empire in the City of London, Lord Rothschild founded the investment trust RIT Capital and chaired it until 2019. Throughout his career, he held various influential positions, including roles at BSkyB Television, RHJ International (now BHF Kleinwort Benson Group), and as a member of the council for the Duchy of Cornwall for the then-Prince of Wales.

As a patron of the arts, Lord Jacob Rothschild served as a trustee of the National Gallery and chaired the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The Rothschild banking family dates back to 18th Century Frankfurt, with Lord Jacob Rothschild's cousin, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, being chairman of NM Rothschild between 1976 and 2003 and advising Queen Elizabeth II on financial matters.

His family described him as a "towering presence" in many people's lives and highlighted his many contributions to finance, the arts, and charitable causes. Lord Jacob Rothschild leaves behind a lasting legacy in the world of finance and beyond.
