In an exciting announcement at Summer Game Fest, Remedy Entertainment showcased the highly anticipated first major DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled Night Springs. The DLC, which centers around Alan Wake's fictional TV show within the game, is set to release tomorrow, June 8, 2024.
Night Springs explores the depths of Alan Wake's psyche as he writes scripts for the in-universe TV show, delving into the impact they have on his reality in the Dark Place and the real world. However, players will not be assuming the role of Alan this time around. Instead, they will step into the shoes of three different characters across three episodes, each with their own unique twist.
The first character, called The Actor, is based on Tim Breaker. The Waitress, inspired by the character Rose Marigold from Oh Deer Diner, takes on the second role. The most striking twist comes with the inclusion of The Sibling, who is based on Jesse Faden, the protagonist from Remedy's hit game Control. Players will witness Jesse's alternate reality as she embarks on a search for her brother in the intriguing setting of Coffee World.
To add to the excitement, a free update has been announced for Alan Wake 2, available to all players on June 8. The update introduces the much-awaited Photo Mode, allowing players to capture and share their most memorable moments from the game.
Night Springs DLC is part of the Expansion Pass for Alan Wake 2, included in the digital Deluxe Edition. Standard Edition owners will have the option to purchase an upgrade to the Deluxe Edition for $20, which will also grant access to the upcoming DLC titled The Lake House, set to release in October. For fans who prefer physical copies, two new editions of the game have been unveiled, including the Physical Deluxe Edition and the Limited Collector's Edition. Pre-orders for these editions will commence on June 8 and include special skins for Saga and Alan, among other bonuses.
Remedy's decision to showcase Night Springs at Summer Game Fest comes as no surprise, considering their previous teasers leading up to the event. The company has been actively promoting the DLC, even changing their official Twitter/X account name to "Poison Pill Entertainment." The retro TV logo they shared further piqued fans' curiosity.
While details about The Lake House DLC remain scarce, Remedy has confirmed its release in October. The DLC revolves around a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake, engaged in secret research that takes a dark turn. Players will embark on two separate adventures, witnessing the collision of realities between Saga Anderson and Alan Wake once again.
Despite earlier rumors suggesting poor sales, Alan Wake 2 has proven to be Remedy's fastest-selling game to date as of February. The studio is delighted with its success, with critics praising the game's superb survival horror experience, surpassing the cult-classic status of its predecessor.
With the Night Springs DLC just a day away, fans eagerly await the chance to immerse themselves in the twisted world of Alan Wake 2 once again, along with the added excitement of playing as Control's Jesse Faden.
