Boston Red Sox outfielder, Jarren Duran, has been handed a two-game suspension by the team following an incident where a homophobic slur was directed towards a fan during Sunday's game against the Astros at Fenway Park, as reported by USAToday Sports. The incident was caught on microphones, leading to Duran's suspension.

In light of this news, relief pitcher Liam Hendriks expressed his support for Duran, emphasizing that the slur did not reflect Duran's true feelings towards the LGBTQ+ community. Hendriks, known for his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, has previously stated that he would not play for teams without a Pride Night celebration.

Hendriks shared his thoughts with the Boston Globe's Peter Abraham, stating, "This is what happens in anger. But I know Jarren. I've had conversations with him plenty of times about the LGBT community and he's been nothing but supportive." He further added, "I know where his heart's at and that's something that I value more than anything."

The relief pitcher acknowledged that the slur used was derogatory but clarified that it was not intended to target or belittle anyone from the LGBTQ+ community. He emphasized that Duran's actions were not consistent and that the slur was not used in a demeaning manner towards anyone.

Hendriks stressed the importance of eradicating such language, stating, "It's not like he's an anti-LGBT guy or anything like that. It's that he had a slip of the tongue and said the wrong word. We're going to get past this as a team."

Duran is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday when the Red Sox face off against the Rangers at home. The team has taken swift action to address the incident and ensure a positive and inclusive environment for all fans and players.

The suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of respectful language and behavior towards all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The Red Sox organization remains committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity within their ranks and among their fanbase.
