In a recent development, Red Bull Racing has decided to suspend a female employee who has been linked to an alleged sexting scandal with Formula 1 principal Christian Horner, as reported by The Sun. The scandal, which gained significant media attention last month, involved alleged salacious text messages exchanged between Horner and the female employee, with Horner making inappropriate remarks and inquiries about her attire.
According to a source quoted by The Sun, it was deemed necessary to suspend the employee to ensure a fair investigation in the matter. She has been placed on full paid leave, following a decision made due to findings from an ongoing internal inquiry. Since Monday, she has been instructed to stay home and has not been present at the Red Bull Racing headquarters in Milton Keynes, England.
The scandal first came to public knowledge in February when reports emerged of a Red Bull female employee accusing Horner of inappropriate and controlling behavior. Following an independent investigation on February 28, Horner was cleared of any wrongdoing. However, on March 1, just ahead of the F1 season opener, nearly 80 alleged screenshots of explicit messages were leaked, causing further controversy.
Among the leaked messages were phrases such as "I keep thinking about Spanx" and "What's underneath at the moment?" These texts were reportedly distributed to around 200 individuals, including journalists and motor racing executives, through a large Google document. One message allegedly sent by the woman reads, "Your wife would not be happy of you asking me for pictures in what I'm wearing."
Christian Horner, who is married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing in the scandal. When confronted with questions about the alleged messages, Horner declined to comment, stating, "I am not going to comment on anonymous speculation from unknown sources."
The scandal has left Halliwell heartbroken and embarrassed, but she has shown her support for Horner by attending the recent Bahrain Grand Prix, where Red Bull emerged victorious, led by world champion driver Max Verstappen. In fact, reports indicate that Halliwell had a good relationship with the female employee and even recommended her to work with her husband.
In the midst of the controversy, Horner has reportedly requested that the leaked text messages be deleted. Both Horner and Halliwell, who have been married since 2015, share a 7-year-old son named Monty.
On Thursday, Horner was seen engaging in conversation with Red Bull driver Max Verstappen during the team's practice session ahead of the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, scheduled to take place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on Saturday.
The suspension of the female employee demonstrates Red Bull Racing's commitment to conducting a thorough investigation into the alleged sexting scandal. As the internal inquiries continue, further updates are expected to shed light on the matter.
