**Wisconsin Defeats No. 9 Arizona in Foul-Heavy Clash**
In a highly charged game marked by numerous fouls and free throws, Wisconsin triumphed over No. 9 Arizona on Friday night in Madison. The game culminated in a 103-88 victory for the Badgers, featuring an unusually high number of 87 free throw attempts.
Wisconsin set a record under Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd by scoring the most points in regulation against the Wildcats. The Badgers capitalized on 41 out of 47 free throw attempts, while Arizona managed to convert 28 of their 40 attempts from the charity stripe. The intense game saw eight Arizona players rack up three or more fouls, with Caleb Love and Tobe Awaka eventually fouling out.
Arizona’s offensive effort was spearheaded by point guard Jaden Bradley, who scored a team-high 22 points. Trey Townsend and K.J. Lewis added 17 and 15 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Wisconsin's John Tonje was a standout, scoring 41 points, including four 3-pointers and an impressive 21 of 22 free throws.
Playing before a sold-out crowd, Wisconsin quickly established a 24-17 lead. A pivotal moment came when Love was penalized with a personal foul followed by a technical foul for trash talking, leading to a seven-point swing for the Badgers. This sequence helped Wisconsin maintain momentum, and they extended their lead to 49-31 before a 13-2 run by Arizona closed the gap. However, Wisconsin still led 55-44 at halftime.
Arizona fought back early in the second half, evening the score at 65-65 after an 8-0 run. But consecutive turnovers from the Wildcats allowed Wisconsin to pull away again with a 10-3 run. From there, the Badgers expanded their lead to double digits and maintained it for the rest of the game, despite Arizona’s dominant rebounding performance (52-28) and a huge advantage on the offensive glass (24-2).
The Wildcats were hampered by poor 3-point shooting, making only 4 of 23 attempts compared to Wisconsin's 12 of 27. Love, in particular, struggled from the perimeter, missing all six of his 3-point attempts and shooting just 2-13 overall.
Arizona will look to bounce back when they host Duke at McKale Center next Friday, hoping to turn around their fortunes in front of their home crowd.
