Sacha Baron Cohen and Rebel Wilson Clash over Memoir Chapter
In a recent social media revelation, actor Rebel Wilson disclosed that her upcoming memoir, titled "Rebel Rising," includes a chapter inspired by her experience working with Sacha Baron Cohen on the film "The Brothers Grimsby." However, Sacha Baron Cohen's representatives wasted no time in issuing a statement denying the claims made by Wilson.
Wilson, known for her roles in "Bridesmaids" and the "Pitch Perfect" series, posted on her Instagram story about a chapter in her book focused on a "massive a-." She identified Cohen as the subject of this chapter. While details about their collaboration were not disclosed, her statement sparked a response from Cohen's representatives.
In a statement shared with The Times, Cohen's representatives vehemently denied Wilson's claims. They cited the existence of "extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and eyewitness accounts" that contradicted Wilson's allegations.
Wilson and Cohen co-starred in the 2016 spy comedy "The Brothers Grimsby," directed by Louis Leterrier. Cohen played a dim-witted brother to Mark Strong's skilled MI6 agent, with Wilson portraying Cohen's on-screen girlfriend.
This isn't the first time Wilson has spoken out about her discomfort with the project. In the past, she voiced her dissatisfaction with the film's team's demand for "full-frontal nudity" for her character, despite her contract's "no nudity" clause. Wilson also claimed that Cohen proposed a sexual sight gag for the film, which she rejected.
"Rebel Rising" promises to delve into various aspects of Wilson's life, including her sexuality, her struggles with weight, fertility issues, and more. The memoir aims to inspire self-love while providing readers with laughter.
The memoir is set to be released on April 2, giving fans an opportunity to gain insights into Wilson's journey. Despite the controversy surrounding the chapter involving Sacha Baron Cohen, Wilson remains resolute, stating on Instagram that she will not be silenced by legal threats or crisis management.
