The Carolina Panthers have set their sights on bolstering their running back roster with some veteran help, and it appears they've landed their target. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Rashaad Penny is planning to sign with the Panthers following their rookie minicamp.

Penny, who was a first-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2018, has had a career filled with ups and downs. While he has shown glimpses of his potential as a big-play threat, he has struggled to live up to the high expectations placed upon him.

During his most successful season in 2021, Penny impressively rushed for 749 yards and six touchdowns on 119 carries. However, his time with the Seahawks came to an end, and he had a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles last year. Unfortunately, Penny's contributions were limited, as he only carried the ball 11 times for 33 yards.

However, in Carolina, Penny will have the opportunity to reunite with Panthers head coach Dave Canales. Canales, who served on the Seahawks' offensive staff throughout all five of Penny's seasons in Seattle, will provide a familiar face and potentially unleash the running back's untapped potential.

The addition of Penny to the Panthers' running back stable could provide a much-needed boost to their ground game. With his raw talent and Canales' familiarity with his skill set, fans will undoubtedly be eager to see if Penny can finally fulfill the promise he showed early in his career.

The terms of the deal and the official announcement from the Carolina Panthers are yet to be disclosed. Nonetheless, the potential acquisition of Rashaad Penny adds an intriguing dynamic to the Panthers' backfield and could bring a fresh burst of energy to their offense in the upcoming season.
