In an astronomical event decades in the making, a solar eclipse is set to captivate North America today, April 8th. As the anticipation builds, central Ohio is expecting clearing skies, providing a prime viewing opportunity for locals.

According to experts, the solar eclipse will commence in central Ohio at precisely 1:55 p.m., as the moon's shadow gradually moves across the sun. Approximately 75 minutes later, areas of central Ohio south of the totality path will experience an impressive 99.6% coverage of the sun by the moon, lasting for four minutes starting at 3:12 p.m.

The eclipse's path of totality, which begins north of Columbus in Worthington and extends all the way up to Lake Erie on a northeastern arc, will provide the most exceptional viewing experience. The moon is expected to complete its journey across the sun by 4:27 p.m., marking the end of this remarkable phenomenon.

Astrology enthusiasts and casual observers are in for a treat as the full eclipse is projected to last for a duration of 2 hours and 31 minutes. To put it into perspective, it is long enough to watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi (excluding the credits), but not enough to finish Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood.

For those interested in finding viewing events and watch parties in central Ohio, a comprehensive list is available. Additionally, a map can be accessed to determine the level of coverage for a specific town by simply typing in its name.

The solar eclipse will make its initial appearance in the United States at 12:06 p.m. Central Time (1:06 p.m. Eastern Time) near Eagle Pass, Texas. The path of totality will then begin at 1:27 p.m. CST (2:27 p.m. EST). The eclipse will culminate in Houlton, eastern Maine, where the partial eclipse will commence at 2:20 p.m., followed by totality at 3:32 p.m., finally concluding at 4:40 p.m.

As the excitement builds, North Americans eagerly await the awe-inspiring sight of this rare solar eclipse, a celestial spectacle that promises to leave a lasting memory for all who witness it.
